Job summary

Child Development Centers Inc. Downtown seeks a Part-Time Educational Aide II to support the Lead Teacher in delivering high-quality care and education for children in Erie. The role emphasizes classroom facilitation, safety, and engagement with students.

Shift is Monday–Friday 2:30pm–5:30pm, with benefits including PTO, holidays and sick days. Some travel to other county centers may be required. This is an opportunity to contribute to developmentally appropriate practice under the CDC

Qualifications

  • High school diploma is required or equivalent.
  • 2,500 child hours are required for consideration.
  • CDA may be required or optional depending on center.
  • Demonstrated decision-making, time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Punctual attendance and reliability; travel may be required within the county.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with implementation of compliance to the CDC’s chosen curriculum, i.e., Creative Curriculum.
  • Consult tools and training to execute standard CDC initiatives, i.e., play plans and intentional play.
  • Maintain an effective level of high-quality verbal engagement all day with the children.
  • Partner with other staff in the classroom to achieve consistent value among all interactions with the children.
  • Manage day-to-day classroom activities, including Creative Curriculum, intentional play, bathroom breaks, meals, etc.
  • Implement brain-based techniques from the CDC’s research base and in-house specialists to assist children with self-regulation and classroom behaviors.
  • Apply CLASS-based practices to ensure superior interactions, particularly for instructional support.
  • Participate in the CDC’s literacy initiative for emergent writing and reading by supporting the children’s development.
  • Attend post-observational conferences to discuss strengths, areas for growth and overall alignment with high-quality practices.
  • Supervise children in the classroom at all times under the direction of the Lead Teacher and report concerns to the Center Director.
  • Ensure the classroom and all equipment are clean, well-maintained, and safe.
  • Adhere to all CDC policies and procedures as set forth in the policy manual.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Description

The Educational Aide II is responsible for actively helping and supporting the Lead Teacher in providing overall care and education to children in the classroom.

Positions Available:

  • Supervise children in the classroom at all times under the direction of the Lead Teacher as well as be be responsible for reporting developmental and behavioral concerns to the Center Director.
  • Ensure the classroom and all equipment are clean, well-maintained, and safe.
  • Adhere to all CDC policies and procedures as set forth in the policy manual.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/ Requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • 2,500 child hours
  • May or may not have CDA
  • Superior decision-making, problem solving, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Proper attendance is required. Employees are expected to arrive on time, every day, able and available to work.
  • May require travel to other centers within the county.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand for long periods throughout the workday with intermittent periods of sitting, walking, and occasional bending, twisting, stooping, reaching and grasping as necessary to carry out essential job duties.
  • Dexterity requirements range from coordinated movements of fingers and hands to simple movements of feet, legs and torso as necessary to carry out essential duties.
  • Lifting and carrying of children and/or objects up to 50 pounds.
