The New York Post is seeking a part-time Editorial Page Assistant to join our team. The role focuses on selecting, editing and laying out letters for the daily Letters to the Editor, and handling related administrative tasks in a hybrid setting.

The ideal candidate has 1–2 years in politically-oriented opinion writing, strong research, SEO and WordPress skills, and a collaborative, detail-focused work style. Onboarding freelance writers and coordinating with HR are key parts of the role.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1–2 years in politically-centered opinion writing or related work.
  • Strong research and fact-checking skills.
  • Ability to edit, lay out copy, and write headlines.
  • Experience onboarding freelance writers.
  • Proficiency with WordPress and online publishing.
  • Good collaboration and time-management in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the letters inbox and select daily topics for the Letters to the Editor section.
  • Edit and fact-check submissions; lay out copy and write headlines.
  • Publish letters online and coordinate with editors on posting.
  • Onboard freelance writers and coordinate approvals with HR and the opinion editor.
  • Schedule editorial board meetings and coordinate visits with building security.
  • Assist with social media posts.

With a 225 year legacy and a fast moving digital first newsroom, the Post operates across print, digital, video, audio, app, television and commerce, and continues to define the city’s most talked about storiesThe New York Post is seeking a part-time Editorial Page Assistant (24 hours per week; 3 shifts per week) to join our team. In collaboration with another part-time team member, this individual will be responsible for selecting, editing and laying out letters for The Post's daily Letters to the Editor section as well as handling other administrative tasks.Responsibilities include:Managing the letters inbox, identifying a topic or topics for the daily letters section, editing and fact-checking submissions, laying out copy, choosing art, writing headlines and publishing the letters section online.Onboarding new freelance opinion writers, communicating with human resources and the opinion editor to get new writers approved and submitting a weekly freelance payrollScheduling editorial board meetings, reserving conference rooms, sending out calendar invitations and coordinating visits with building securityAssisting with social media postsThe ideal candidate will have:A minimum of 1-2 years' experience in politically-centered opinion writing or related workRelated research-reporting skillsSelf-motivated and assertive with good use of tact and judgmentAbility to work independently but also a great collaborator and a team playerProven track record to manage multiple tasks and ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and follow upsAn effective manager of social media accountsHave a working knowledge of SEO and social-media best practicesProficiency in preparing WordPress files for online postingNote: The NY Post adheres to a hybrid work model.Please note that this is an engagement facilitated through a third-party vendor.
