Job summary

The Salvation Army in Lexington, KY seeks a Part-Time Education Assistant to support a teacher in an early childhood education setting. You will work a 5-hour day, Monday through Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm window, assisting with activities, environment setup, and child development documentation.

Responsibilities include planning, adapting activities for children with special needs, maintaining safety and cleanliness, and collaborating with the team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; some college preferred
• 18 years or older
• Background checks, CPR, First aid, & TB Skin test requirements
• Previous experience working with children
• Creative, Enthusiastic, highly organized, flexible, good communication
• Clean and neat appearance
• Ability to lift to 50 pounds

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher in providing appropriate early childhood education experience
• Demonstrate knowledge of space, furnishings and developmentally appropriate activities/materials
• Use verbal and nonverbal communication to engage children
• Support an environment that fosters curiosity, respect, problem solving and self-esteem
• Plan and prepare learning environment, materials and supplies
• Individualize activities and adapt for children with special needs
• Follow health, safety and sanitation regulations across settings
• Maintain confidentiality and professional attitude
• Assist with collecting information about each child’s development
• Participate in team planning and program implementation
• Act as a welcoming ambassador to families
• Pursue professional development to improve performance in child development
• Develop and implement a written individual growth plan
• Assist with general housekeeping and classroom cleanliness
• Understand and comply with city/state licensing standards
• Provide other services for program functioning
