Job summary

The SC Commission for the Blind is seeking a part-time Driver to support blind and visually impaired consumers in the Florence area, roughly 20 hours per week. You will transport clients to clinics and SCCB services, assist passengers, and maintain records with strict confidentiality.

Candidates must have a valid SC driver's license, at least 1 year of driving experience, and GPS proficiency. Prior experience in human services or government settings is a plus.

Qualifications

• Valid South Carolina driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Minimum of 1 year of driving experience.
• Proficiency using a GPS device.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to assist passengers entering and exiting vehicles.
• Experience in human services, healthcare, or government settings is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport SCCB consumers to and from low vision clinics, SCCB-related appointments and services, and other approved destinations.
• Provide professional, respectful assistance to consumers during pick-up and drop-off (e.g., verbal guidance, door-to-door support).
• Maintain accurate trip logs, mileage records, and required documentation.
• Communicate effectively with SCCB staff regarding schedules, delays, or concerns.
• Operate SCCB vehicles in compliance with state policies, traffic laws, and safety procedures.
• Conduct basic vehicle checks (fuel level, cleanliness, safety readiness) and report maintenance needs promptly.
