Job summary

The SC Commission for the Blind (SCCB) in Florence is seeking a reliable, safety-focused Part-Time Driver (~20 hours per week) to support blind and visually impaired consumers in the Florence area and to and from the Columbia District Office.

Responsibilities include transporting consumers to low vision clinics and SCCB appointments, maintaining trip logs, communicating with staff, performing basic vehicle checks, and protecting confidentiality in accordance with SCCB policies.

Qualifications

• Possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• At least 1 year of driving experience.
• Proficiency using a GPS device.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport SCCB consumers to and from low vision clinics, SCCB-related appointments and services, and other approved destinations.
• Provide professional, respectful assistance during pick-up and drop-off (e.g., verbal guidance, door-to-door support).
• Maintain accurate trip logs, mileage records, and required documentation.
• Communicate effectively with SCCB staff regarding schedules, delays, or concerns.
• Operate SCCB vehicles in compliance with state policies, traffic laws, and safety procedures.
• Conduct basic vehicle checks (fuel level, cleanliness, safety readiness) and report maintenance needs promptly.
• Protect consumer confidentiality in accordance with SCCB policies and applicable regulations.
