Job summary

Central Mississippi Planning & Development District seeks a Part-Time District Accountant to prepare and maintain financial reports for assigned programs. The role includes budgeting, reconciliation, and compliance duties, with no guaranteed minimum hours.

The position collaborates with the Director of Finance and management to meet deadlines, analyze financial information, and ensure accurate reporting. Office-based work with potential travel and flexible workload demands.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field and at least three (3) years of accounting experience, including at least one (1) year of governmental accounting experience.
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accounting functions adhere to established policies, federal and state requirements, accounting procedures, and applicable program guidelines.
  • Process purchase requisitions, contracts, travel requests, and expenses.
  • Review and reconcile invoices and reports and process reimbursement of service providers.
  • Prepare cash requests, drawdowns, and accounts payable submissions.
  • Respond to monitoring requests involving subcontractors, subrecipients, and subawardees.
  • Maintain and review budgets, accounting codes, hours tracking, and financial reports.
  • Examine financial reports and prepare profit/loss and other financial analyses.
  • Review cash-management worksheets and expenditures.
  • Prepare journal entries, financial reports, and account reconciliations.
  • Assist with District and program budgeting, budget amendments, and audits.
  • Correspond with and assist staff, subcontractors, subrecipients, and subawardees regarding budgets, reporting, and other financial matters.
  • Perform other related accounting duties as assigned.
