Job summary

The Arc of Ocean County is seeking part-time Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to assist adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Brick Township and Toms River, NJ. Training is provided and no prior DSP experience is required.

As a DSP, you\'ll support daily residential life, community participation, and individualized assistance, helping individuals remain independent and engaged in their communities.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid New Jersey driver\'s license in good standing with no more than five points.
• Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and professionalism.
• Ability to perform the physical responsibilities of the position, including assisting individuals with mobility and completing household tasks as needed.
• Demonstrated employment stability preferred, including at least one year with a previous employer preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals with personal care, meal preparation, medication administration, housekeeping, laundry, and other daily routines.
• Help individuals practice everyday skills, make choices, and build greater independence.
• Contribute to a clean, comfortable, organized, and welcoming home environment.
• Accompany and support individuals during appointments, shopping trips, recreational activities, volunteer opportunities, and other community outings.
• Encourage opportunities for social connection and meaningful participation in the community.
• Safely transport individuals in agency vehicles when assigned.
• Tailor your assistance to each individual\'s goals, abilities, and specific support needs.
• Respond to medical, behavioral, and emotional challenges in a patient, professional, and respectful manner.
• Protect and promote each individual\'s dignity, privacy, and rights.
• Complete electronic documentation accurately, including daily progress notes, medication records, and other required program records.
• Share important information with coworkers, supervisors, families, healthcare professionals, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Follow agency policies and residential procedures to help maintain consistent, quality services and regulatory compliance.
