Job summary

Birmingham OB/Gyn in Birmingham, AL, seeks an experienced breast sonographer for a part-time or PRN role focused almost exclusively on diagnostic breast ultrasound. The position offers daytime outpatient scheduling with no evenings or weekends, and priority scheduling on Tuesdays and Thursdays at our main office.

The ideal candidate is breast‑certified or has extensive hands-on experience, familiar with GE Voluson systems and Greenway PrimeSuite, and able to communicate effectively with

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography or imaging program.
• Current professional sonography or radiologic technology certification.
• Experience performing diagnostic breast ultrasound examinations.
• Knowledge of breast anatomy, pathology and ultrasound terminology.
• Strong image acquisition and documentation skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to provide compassionate care to anxious patients.
• Attention to detail and clinical judgment.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic breast ultrasound examinations according to established protocols and physician orders.
• Obtain high-quality images of breast tissue, lesions, and areas of clinical concern.
• Accurately document the location, size, characteristics, and other relevant features of areas of interest.
• Review available clinical information and prior imaging when appropriate before performing examinations.
• Communicate relevant technical findings promptly and professionally to the interpreting physician.
• Work collaboratively with physicians and clinical staff to support timely, coordinated patient care.
• Explain procedures clearly and provide a calm, compassionate experience for patients who may be anxious about a breast finding.
• Accurately document examinations and patient information in Greenway PrimeSuite.
• Properly operate, clean, and maintain ultrasound equipment.
• Follow established standards for image quality, patient identification, infection prevention, safety, and confidentiality.
• Maintain complete and accurate ultrasound records.
• Perform a limited number of gynecologic or obstetric ultrasound examinations if needed.
