Job summary

The Champaign County Deputy Coroner (Part-Time, Non-Exempt) position supports the coroner and forensic pathologist in death investigations and autopsies. The role includes external examinations, documenting evidence, and identifications, with shift work that includes evenings and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities include writing detailed reports, reviewing medical records, communicating with medical staff and families, and maintaining morgue cleanliness.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age at hire.
• Must have valid Illinois driver's license with clear driving record.
• Must pass state and national criminal background checks.
• Must pass a physical fitness test.
• Ability to work varying day and on-call night shifts, weekends and holidays.
• Be able to type 50 wpm.
• Excellent attention to detail with strong written and verbal skills.

Responsibilities

• Write detailed investigation reports.
• Review patient medical records.
• Interact with medical personnel, law enforcement, and families.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the morgue and storage facility.
