Job description

Overview

The part-time dentist will oversee the delivery of patient care in the Blackhawk Dental College (BTC) Dental Clinic and participate in student instruction and grading. The Dentist will work collaboratively with the Dental Program Instructors and Academic Chair.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the clinical educational environment for the purpose of training dental hygienist students.
  • Supervise the preventive care provided by student clinicians and protect the welfare of patients.
  • Provide specific dental services which can only be performed by a licensed dentist, including but not limited to:
  • Conduct a comprehensive evaluation of all new patients to the clinic.
  • Prescribe radiographic imaging based on patient needs.
  • Interpret radiographs and diagnostic tests.
  • Diagnose oral conditions and refer patients for further treatment.
  • Ensure the safe administration of anesthetics.
  • Participate in the clinical instruction of dental hygienist students.
  • Participate in the evaluation of preventative care provided by student clinicians and student performance on clinical skills assessments.
  • Participate in periodic Dental Hygienist faculty meetings and calibration sessions.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD).
  • Maintain an active license (or eligible to receive) to practice dentistry in the state of Wisconsin.
  • Minimum of two years of clinical dentistry experience.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of patients, students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to observe students clinicians and provide objective feedback regarding clinical performances.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior clinical instructional experience.
  • Prior didactic instructional experience.
