Job description

THE ROLE

The Server/Bartender for the Maryland Club, located at the XFINITY Center in College Park, MD, plays a dual role in providing exceptional member service in both restaurant and bar settings. This position reports to the Food & Beverage Manager and is instrumental in delivering a polished and professional experience across dining, lounge, and bar environments.

Service & Hospitality

  • Provide upscale table and bar service to members and guests in the dining room, lounge, and bar areas.
  • Greet guests warmly, anticipate needs, and personalize the dining and drinking experience to elevate member satisfaction.
  • Follow precise steps of service, including mise en place, pacing, and table maintenance, to ensure a seamless flow of courses and beverages.
  • Memorize menus, daily features, and beverage lists to confidently answer questions and make tailored recommendations.
  • Maintain a strong presence on the floor and behind the bar, offering proactive hospitality and responding quickly to requests.
  • Handle member and guest feedback with professionalism and grace, escalating concerns to management when necessary.

Bartending & Beverage Program Support

  • Prepare and serve cocktails, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages in accordance with club recipes and presentation standards.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of classic cocktails, house specialties, spirits, and wine to provide confident suggestions and pairings.
  • Set up, maintain, and break down bar areas, ensuring organization, cleanliness, and readiness for service and events.
  • Follow all alcohol service laws and Legends Hospitality policies, including ID verification and responsible service.
  • Support beverage program development and seasonal menu changes, offering feedback on recipes, garnishes, and execution.

Technical Operations

  • Enter all food and beverage orders accurately in the POS system and coordinate timing with kitchen and bar teams.
  • Handle cash, credit card transactions, and member account charges in accordance with Legends policies.
  • Perform regular side work, including polishing glassware and flatware, restocking supplies, folding linens, and maintaining service stations.
  • Assist with inventory checks and communicate shortages or par levels to the Beverage Manager and leadership team.

Event & Private Function Support

  • Work private events and special functions, including game day activations, receptions, and member programming.
  • Provide both bartending and tableside service as needed during large-scale or VIP events.
  • Assist with setup, breakdown, and floorplan transitions for various formats (buffet, plated dinner, cocktail reception, etc.).

Cleanliness & Compliance

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to all health codes, safety standards, and club protocols.
  • Ensure all service areas, bar stations, and tools meet cleanliness and sanitation requirements at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a server and/or bartender in an upscale, high-volume environment.
  • Strong knowledge of food, wine, spirits, and cocktail preparation.
  • Must hold a valid alcohol service certification (TIPS, TAM, or state-specific equivalent).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a passion for hospitality.
  • Ability to multitask, stay organized, and perform under pressure with poise.
  • Familiarity with POS systems and basic cash handling procedures.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by club operations.
  • Experience in private clubs, fine dining, or member-based environments preferred.

Compensation

Hourly rate, commensurate with experience, and eligibility for overtime. This role may be eligible for Legends’ comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, paid vacation, and access to a 401k plan.
