Job summary

South Middleton School District is seeking a crossing guard to assist students at the street crossing near our campus during morning and afternoon peak hours. The role requires vigilance, reliability and courteous communication with children and drivers to ensure safe crossings.

Typical shifts run 7:00am–8:00am and 2:30pm–4:00pm, with opportunities to support district events during evenings and weekends. Candidates should demonstrate good attendance and the ability to manage challenging

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience communicating with children.
• Strong interpersonal skills and tact when interacting with children and drivers.
• Ability to handle situations that may occur with children at the crossing.
• Ability to deal with dissatisfied individuals.
• Good attendance and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Directs school children to cross the street at the crossing signal.
• Controls vehicular traffic as necessary consistent with the safety of all concerned to assure safe crossing for children.
• Controls traffic when necessary for the safe travel of children.
• Wears safety vest while directing traffic and/or crossing children.
• Instructs all school children to walk at the crossing point.
• Must be dependable and punctual.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or his/her designee.

Job description

Works with the Supervisor of Safety & Securityto ensure school safety requirements are met for children crossing the street. Typical work hours are between 7:00am and 8:00am and 2:30pm to 4:00pm. Employees who serve in this role are afforded opportunities to support needs on evening and weekend for other school district events as part of the security team for our campus.
