Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Criminal Justice and one (1) year experience working with crime victims, or Associates degree and a minimum of two years’ experience working with crime victims. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License.
The purpose of this classification is to perform administrative, support, and counseling work functions associated with victim’s assistance qualification provided by the Victim’s Bill of Rights.
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
1. Identify victims and initiate contact upon receipt of incident reports, daily jail list, or Court C alendars in compliance with the Georgia CrimeVictims' Bill of Rights.
2. Contact victims of crime through phone or mail concerning court cases and victim rights.
Assess needs, make referrals or discuss courtproceedings.
3. Meet with victims of crime who present in the District Attorney's Office or the Juvenile Court ADAs Office.
4. Serve as liaison between victims and investigators, district attorney staff and attorneys and court personnel.
5. Assess crime victims' needs and assist in arrangements for transportation, shelter, 911 emergency cell phones, door locks repair/replace, childcare or other areas as identified.
6. Provide appropriate materials for victims of crime (brochures, support group fliers, local service numbers, etc.)
7. Review pleas, arraignments, and bond calendars weekly for follow-up information to assist victims of crime
8. Provide court accompaniment to crime victims and assistance in preparing Victim Impact Statements.
9. Assist the victim and family members with understanding the process and what to expect at each stage of the case in the system.
10. Assist the victim and family members with understanding all the legal terminology and strategy during the processing of the case.
11. Advocate for restitution at the time of sentencing.
12. Assist crime victims with registering for VINE notification and Board of pardons and Paroles information
13. Assist crime victims in filling out victim compensation claim forms through the Georgia Crime Victim Compensation Program and in preparing victim impact statements.
14. Establish and maintain professional rapport with DA's office staff, Law Enforcement and other agencies.
15. Maintain ethical guidelines as indicated by the DA's office professional code of ethics.
16. Maintain profession attire in the office and in the courtroom.
17. Coordinate crime scene clean-up services through Victim's Compensation.
18. Provide information and assistance with property return
19. Provide post-sentence referrals and intervention as needed.
20. Assist victims with safety planning.
21. Provide information and advocacy regarding Temporary Protective Orders through referrals to the Salvation Army Safe House.
22. Any other duties as assigned by the District Attorney.
