Fairmount Memorial Association is seeking a Part-time Crematory Operator. The role supports crematory operations, coordinates with front-end funeral services, and maintains crematory certification.
The position includes first-call handling, preparation of remains, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. The ideal candidate has at least 1 year in the funeral profession, is able to lift heavy loads, and can work with a professional appearance during first-calls and services.
This position is focused on the operations of the Crematory and handling of human remains. It is intended to provide seamless coordination between the ‘front-end’ of our funeral operations (PNW & Heritage) and the back-end Crematory process. The Crematory Operator will uphold a Crematory Operator’s Certification at all times of employment. This person will also facilitate the proper training of those who will operate the crematory in his/her absence. This person will also assist the Prep & Receiving Supervisor with first-calls, and additional preparations as needed and requested. The detailed description of this position includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Must be able to lift 50 to 75 pounds without assistance and 75 to 200 pounds with assistance, sit or stand for long periods of time, and withstand short periods of exposure to the elements. For an employee to succeed in this position they will need to be able to solicit information from bereaved individuals and families in a time of mourning while maintaining optimum levels of compassion and professionalism, multitask regularly, maintain records and service requests from multiple cases at once, work independently, do simple mathematic equations, adapt to changing schedules, and contribute to problem solving when needed. Fairmount Memorial Association/Heritage Funeral Home promotes a drug/alcohol-free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing, as well as random drug-testing once employed.
This position requires the frequent use of, and familiarization with, equipment such as Crematory/Processor, Cots, Lowering & Lifting Devices, Funeral & Service Vehicles, Church Trucks, Casket Biers, Flower Stands, Electronic Sound & Video Systems, Retorts, Computers, Facsimile & 6-line Phone System, Laminators, Postage Meters, Examination & Preparation Tables, and Cosmetic & Hair Tools.
This position requires a minimum of 1-year work experience in the funeral profession, with extensive experience in crematory operation. Individual will be required to uphold a Crematory Operators Certification while employed, and at minimum a Washington State Embalmers Internship license. Individual will be responsible for obtaining the required continuing educations credits (as required for licensure), as well as maintaining records associated with licensure. Valid state driver’s license with insurable driving history.
