Job summary

Buckingham Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge, MA seeks a part-time (75%), temporary Costume Designer/Costume Shop Manager to collaborate with the theater production team, shape wardrobe design, and mentor student crews. You will build, alter, and source costumes within budget, supervise fittings, attend dress rehearsals, and lead the costume shop through strike.

Flexible evenings and weekends are required during productions.

Qualifications

  • Experience designing costumes for theatrical productions; ability to mentor students.
  • Formal training or professional experience in costume design; budget-aware and collaborative.
  • Strong sewing/garment construction skills with pattern creation and alterations.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor student costume build and run crews throughout the production process.
  • Collaborate with the Theater Director to ensure costumes align with artistic vision and technical requirements.
  • Build, sew, source, and alter costume elements within the production budget.
  • Plan and supervise costume fittings and alterations; ensure costumes are ready for dress rehearsals.
