Job summary

Hickory Creek Healthcare in Winamac, IN is seeking a part-time cook to prepare meals for residents in an institutional setting, following menus and ensuring proper temperature and presentation.

You will work with dietary staff, support onboarding, and help maintain safety and sanitation standards. Prior experience in healthcare food service and a GED are preferred.

Qualifications

• Prior institutional/healthcare service experience preferred.
• Sanitation/Safe Food Handling certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Make a difference in residents’ lives by preparing meals with care and compassion.
• Assist with onboarding new teammates and support a positive kitchen environment.
• Follow recipes and menus prepared by the Registered Dietitian.
• Cook and prepare meals in institutional quantities at proper temperatures and times.
• Assist with training dietary staff on food preparation, garnishing and presentation.
• Maintain orderly food storage, trays assembly, and cleanliness.
• Prepare substitutes to accommodate resident dietary preferences.

• Follows recipes and prepares food that corresponds to menu cycles prepared by the Registered Dietitian.
• Cooks or prepares palatable, attractive, nutritionally adequate meals in institutional quantities at proper temperatures and at proper times.
• Assists with demonstrating, instructing and educating dietary staff on preparations, garnishing and presentation of food.
• Supervises dietary staff with food preparation, assembling trays, cleaning, and storage of supplies and equipment.
• Prepares and maintains supply of food substitutes to accommodate resident choices, cultural, ethnic, and religious preferences.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Prior Institutional and/or Healthcare service experience is preferred.
• Certification in Sanitation/Safe Food Handling is preferred.
