Position Description

The Controller will have a day-to-day, ongoing impact on Duffy Group’s business operations, helping us to analyze, strategize, and improve our financial position. This accounting and finance professional will understand current accounting practices, be adept in QuickBooks as well as CRM/billing/payroll software, and be able to both contribute to the business strategy as well as be hands on in all aspects of finance and accounting. The Controller will handle all accounting activity and work with an outside CPA on tax preparation. As a member of senior leadership, the Controller will be comfortable in a leadership role that requires clear and effective communication skills.

Responsibilities
  • Handle all accounting and finance activities in a timely and accurate manner including:
  • Prepare, issue and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, highlighting issues to be addressed and projecting annual results
  • Prepare the annual budget and monitor performance versus financial goals
  • Ensure customer billings are accurate and sent on a timely basis
  • Monitor collections and ensure timely collection of accounts
  • Monitor cash flow/balances and ensure adequate cash reserves
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Process accounts payable, including independent contractors and the preparation of 1099s
  • Review and process expense reports
  • Payroll oversite and processing coordination with third party payroll firm, including 401K administration, preparation of W-2s, etc.
  • Bonus calculation and processing
  • Work with the President and senior leadership to advise on long‑term business and financial planning
  • Work closely with Tax CPA to ensure accurate and timely tax filings and to determine strategies to minimize tax liabilities
  • Manage banking and corporate credit card relationships
  • Oversee the 401k and cafeteria plans
  • Prepare 401k information and census for Form 5500
  • Document and optimize all accounting and finance procedures and processes
  • Insurance
  • Ensure all business‑related insurances are in place. Respond to insurance companies’ inquiries
  • Monitor benefit payroll deductions for medical (HSA and FSA), dental, and vision plans
Requirements
  • Live in Arizona
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • 10+ years of proven accounting experience
  • Professional accounting certification, including CPA, CGA, or CA preferred
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP)
  • Extensive experience with QuickBooks required
  • Experience with CRM/billing systems and ability to integrate those systems with QuickBooks strongly preferred
  • Experience overseeing and processing payroll
  • Proven ability and willingness to be heavily in day‑to‑day accounting and finance operations while providing strategic insights to the organization
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and tax compliance regulations and reporting preferred
