Part-time Contract Trainer III: Robotics, Mechatronics, and Electronics

Deliver high‑quality, hands‑on instruction in robotics, mechatronics, and electronics to students, educators, workforce trainees, and industry participants. Support technical education and workforce development through project‑based learning, applied engineering activities, and industry‑aligned curriculum delivery.

Courses are offered daytime, evening, or Saturdays depending on need. Part‑time appointments are made on a semester‑by‑semester (as needed) basis.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver project‑based instruction in robotics, automation, mechatronics, electronics, and related technical subjects.
  • Facilitate hands‑on learning using industry‑standard tools, software, equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Teach core concepts including electronics, sensors, microcontrollers, robotics programming, automation, troubleshooting, and lab safety.
  • Support student projects, competitions, prototypes, and capstone activities.
  • Implement and improve curriculum, lesson plans, lab activities, and instructional resources aligned with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with staff, educators, employers, and industry partners while maintaining professional communication and staying current with emerging technologies.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and performance.
  • Provide a supportive and engaging learning environment for all students.
  • Ensure safe and effective use of equipment and tools.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least five (5) years of experience in robotics, mechatronics, industrial automation, electronics, or a closely related field. Relevant work‑related experience, recognized certifications, registered apprenticeship, and/or licensures may be considered in lieu of educational requirements.
  • Working knowledge of robotics systems, mechatronics, and electronic systems, including installation, programming, integration, and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of electrical circuits, sensors, actuators, motors, control systems, and industrial automation principles.
  • Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), robotics systems, or embedded systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and system layouts.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills in electrical, mechanical, and automated systems.
  • Ability to work independently and manage instructional assignments.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours when necessary.
  • Demonstrated basic literacy skills sufficient to support instruction, documentation, and communication.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electronics, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.
  • Experience delivering hands‑on instruction in robotics, automation, electronics, or related manufacturing training environments.
  • Industry experience with industrial robotics systems (e.g., FANUC, ABB, KUKA), PLC programming (e.g., Allen‑Bradley, Siemens), or automation systems integration.
  • Familiarity with Industry 4.0 technologies (e.g., smart manufacturing, IoT, data acquisition, networking).
  • Experience with electronic diagnostics tools, control systems, and programming environments (e.g., ladder logic, HMI development, microcontrollers).
  • Relevant industry certifications or experience aligning training with employer and workforce needs.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in a lab, classroom, or shop environment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to safely operate and demonstrate robotics, automation, and electronic equipment.
  • Manual dexterity to handle tools, wiring, components, and precision instruments.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach to support instruction, equipment setup, and troubleshooting.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read schematics, displays, and electronic components.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a lab or industrial environment, including hearing and responding to instructions and safety signals.
  • Ability to work in environments with energized equipment, moving machinery, and industrial lab conditions while following safety protocols.
