Job summary

RCM Health Care Services is seeking a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) for a part-time, school-based role to serve students across 13 sites in the Denver area. The position requires travel between campuses and collaboration with TVIs, teachers, and families to carry over skills.

The role focuses on IEP-aligned goals, functional mobility assessments, safe travel techniques, and accurate progress documentation.

Qualifications

• Current ACVREP COMS certification required with valid credential.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Orientation & Mobility or related field.
• Experience with K–12 students and transition-age youth preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct instruction in orientation and mobility skills to students with visual impairments
• Develop and implement individualized goals aligned with each student’s IEP
• Conduct functional mobility assessments and environmental safety evaluations
• Teach safe travel techniques including cane use, sighted guide, environmental awareness, and public transportation navigation
• Support students’ independence in accessing school and community environments
• Collaborate with Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs), classroom staff, and families to promote skill carryover
• Travel between schools to deliver services according to student needs
• Participate in IEP meetings and provide progress updates and recommendations
• Maintain accurate service records and progress documentation
