Responsibilities

• Meet with mothers and infants affected by HIV to assess needs and develop client-centered care plans.
• Orient clients to clinics, providers, and community resources including Ryan White services, housing, and food.
• Support treatment retention by coordinating appointments, transportation, and reminders.
• Provide coaching and education to support HIV care, infant care, and nutrition.
• Maintain accurate documentation of participant contacts and services per confidentiality rules.
• Coordinate and support outreach programs, workshops, and engagement initiatives.
• Develop and distribute outreach communications and program resources.

The Department of Pediatrics employs nearly 1,000 faculty and staff who work alongside employees of Riley Hospital for Children and students of Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine (IUSM) to make Riley Children's Health Indiana's largest and most skilled pediatric system. Division of Pediatrics Children's Health Services is seeking a Part-Time Community Outreach Assistant

This position supports a service project aimed at helping mothers and babies affected by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) with engagement in maternal-child HIV services in Marion County and the Transitional Grant Area (Boone, Brown, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Morgan, Putnam, and Shelby Counties).

Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Assists with recruitment and enrollment of pregnant and postpartum women living with HIV and their infants in Marion County and the Transitional Grant Area.
• Meets with mothers and infants affected by HIV who are newly engaging or re-engaging in maternal-child HIV services to assess needs, provide peer support, and develop client-centered care plans.
• Orients clients to adult and pediatric clinics, health care providers, and community resources, including but not limited to the Ryan White HIV services Program, housing, food, employment, mental health, substance use, and legal services.
• Supports treatment retention by helping coordinate appointments and transportation, providing reminders, and re-engaging clients who miss appointments or are lost to follow-up.
• Provides coaching and education to support HIV care and treatment adherence and infant care, including medication, nutrition, and laboratory monitoring.
• Maintains accurate documentation of participant contacts, referrals, follow-up, and services in accordance with program and confidentiality requirements.
• Coordinates and supports the delivery of community outreach programs, educational activities, workshops, and engagement initiatives, ensuring effective execution of established program plans and objectives.
• Serves as an experienced resource for outreach operations, providing guidance and assistance regarding procedures, processes, participant services, and program requirements.
• Develops, prepares, and distributes outreach communications, educational materials, participant information, and program resources for community audiences and stakeholders.
• Coordinates complex program logistics, including scheduling, registrations, facility arrangements, communications, material preparation, and participant support activities.
• Establishes and maintains productive relationships with community participants, organizations, and university partners to facilitate outreach activities and support positive engagement experiences.
• Monitors outreach activities and participant engagement, identifies operational issues or service concerns, and implements appropriate solutions within established guidelines and procedures.
• Compiles, tracks, and maintains outreach records, participation data, surveys, and program information; prepares reports and summaries to support program assessment and operational decision-making.
