Job summary

The Town of North Haven is seeking a qualified Part-Time Code Enforcement Officer to administer and enforce local, state, and federal building, land use, shoreland zoning, and related regulations in a fair and professional manner. Under the Select Board, the CEO will exercise independent judgment while delivering excellent customer service to residents, contractors, developers, and visitors.

Qualifications

• Applicants should possess Maine Code Enforcement Officer certification or be eligible to obtain certification.
• Working knowledge of the Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code (MUBEC), municipal land use regulations, Shoreland Zoning, and applicable state laws.
• Strong communication, organizational, investigative, and report-writing skills.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining positive working relationships with municipal officials, contractors, and the public.
• Valid Maine driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Review building permit and land use applications for compliance with local ordinances and state regulations.
• Conduct field inspections and investigate complaints regarding potential ordinance violations.
• Issue permits and maintain accurate records of permits, inspections, violations, and enforcement actions.
• Enforce local, state, and federal codes and ordinances, including Shoreland Zoning requirements.
• Attend Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals meetings as requested and provide technical guidance.
• Recommend updates and improvements to municipal ordinances when appropriate.
• Maintain regular office hours at least one day per week.
• Provide courteous, professional, and timely service to the public.
