Job summary

Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative (BVMI) seeks a Certified Medical Assistant to support patient care at our Hackensack clinic. The CMA will obtain lab specimens, assist with clinical tasks, and ensure accurate check-in and check-out for visitors.

Responsibilities include phlebotomy, EKGs, order entry, and coordinating with Quest labs. Bilingual Spanish/English candidates are preferred; proficiency with EMR and strong communication are essential in our fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

CMA credential is required.
Proven experience in Phlebotomy and EKG administration.
Fluent in Spanish and English.
Proficiency with EMR and standard office software.
Strong communication skills in a fast-paced, diverse environment.
Punctual, dependable, and able to multitask.
Sterile Processing Tech experience or CRCST/CSPDT is a plus.

Responsibilities

Verify patient identity before obtaining specimens.
Obtain and handle specimens with proper lab techniques; provide clear instructions.
Review lab requisitions for accuracy; enter orders into the lab computer; label and store specimens.
Perform patient EKGs as ordered during clinical sessions.
Prepare Quest requisitions when internal access is not possible; schedule specimen pickups.
Consult with Charge Nurse or NP on patient health concerns and relay information accurately to patients.
Assist with medical interpretation to support patient communication as needed.
