Job summary

The City of Dearborn is seeking Enforcement Officers to cover day, afternoon and evening shifts, with rotating weekends. This year-round position is 28 hours per week.

Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license, be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English, and successfully complete a 3-4 week departmental training and FTO program. A high school diploma or GED is required, and applicants should be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English
• Requires ability to prepare concise written reports
• Prior law enforcement, inspection or security-related public contact experience preferred
• Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License with an excellent driving record
• College coursework not required but preferred

Responsibilities

• Patrol city structures, parking areas, parks, and other locations to enforce city ordinances.
• Demonstrate appropriate judgment when responding to complaints.
• Operate city vehicle safely and follow traffic laws.
• Follow verbal and written instructions and learn assigned tasks and procedures.
• Maintain strong verbal communication with the public in a respectful manner.
• Operate computers in the vehicle and in the station.
• Prepare reports, citations, and records; testify in court as needed.
• Withstand adverse weather conditions related to assignments.
• Learn city streets and provide directions to the public.
• Assist other city departments in emergency situations.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
