Job summary

Positive Development is hiring a Part-Time Child Development Specialist to work onsite in Boonton, NJ, and surrounding areas. You will work one-on-one with autistic children in their homes or centers to build communication, social, and daily living skills through play-based, relationship-focused interactions.

You’ll be actively coaching and connecting with families, while gaining experience relevant for careers in psychology, social work, and education.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED (must be 18+)
• Valid driver’s license + reliable transportation (30–40 min drive radius)
• Ability to perform physical tasks, including playing on the floor for up to two-three hours per session
• Strong communication skills and professionalism with families and teammates

Responsibilities

• Build communication, social and daily living skills through play and activities with the child
• Create meaningful connections to help children think and engage with the world
• Follow a relationship-based intervention model to achieve outcomes with fewer sessions
• Track progress by documenting session notes and goals
• Collaborate with clinicians and supervisors to develop clinical skills and confidence
• Learn how evidence-based developmental care works in real life
