The candidate will adhere to Virginia licensing and NAEYC guidelines, ensure proper child-to-teacher ratios, and communicate with families about their child’s progress. A CDA credential is required and applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and have completed high school or equivalent.
• Child development credential per Virginia Code §22.1-289.048.
• Ability to supervise children aged 6 weeks to 12 years.
• Knowledge of activity planning and special events for child development centers.
• Ability to communicate with children using approved development techniques.
• Ability to communicate (oral and written) with parents, faculty, and staff.
• Knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing children’s materials and play areas.
• Ability to lift and maintain 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the implementation of planned lessons to support learning and child development.
• Support program health and safety measures in the classroom.
• Supervise meal times reflecting family-style dining.
• Maintain supervision and accountability of children; ensure proper ratios.
• Assist with snacks or meals where applicable.
• Prepare and maintain indoor/outdoor activity areas and materials.
• Interact with children using approved guidance and youth development techniques.
• Observe for signs of illness, abuse, or neglect and report as directed.
• Act as a mandatory reporter to Child Protective Services when needed.
• Provide parents with daily feedback on their child’s activities.
