Tidewater Community College in Norfolk is seeking an Assistant Teacher for the Child Development Center. You will support Lead Teachers, implement lessons, and help maintain safety and high-quality care for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years.

This part-time, nonexempt role requires compliance with Virginia licensing and NAEYC standards; candidates must be at least 18, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and hold a Virginia child development credential or CDA preferred.

Formación

• Must be at 18 years of age and have completed high school or equivalent.
• A child development credential by an organization listed in §22.1-289.048 of the Virginia Code.
• Ability to supervise children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old.
• Knowledge of activity planning and events for child development centers.
• Ability to communicate with children using approved development techniques.
• Ability to communicate (oral and written) with parents, faculty, and staff.
• Knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing children’s materials and play areas.
• Ability to lift and maintain 40 pounds.

Responsabilidades

• Assist with implementing planned lessons to support learning and child development.
• Support health and safety measures in the classroom.
• Supervise mealtimes reflecting family style dining.
• Maintain supervision and accountability of children in care.
• Maintain appropriate child-to-teacher ratios.
• Arrange for and/or serve appropriate snacks or meals where applicable.
• Prepare and maintain indoor/outdoor activity areas and materials for daily schedules.
• Interact with children using approved guidance techniques.
• Observe participants for signs of illness, abuse, or neglect and report as directed.
• Incumbent is a mandatory reporter to Child Protective Services as prescribed by local policy.
• Interact professionally with employees, parents, and community members.
• Provide parents with daily verbal or written feedback about their child or program activities.
