Job summary

Morningside Ministries in Boerne, TX is seeking a Chaplain to support the spiritual life of residents, staff, and families at our Menger Springs Senior Living Community. The Chaplain will help provide religious programs, pastoral care, and crisis support within a faith-based long-term care setting.

Qualifications

• Education and ordination required.
• CPE or counseling/training in aging and ecumenical worship; parish or chaplaincy experience."
• Computer skills limited to word processing and E-mail; Fluency in Spanish is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Lead worship and small group religious studies appropriate for the capacities of the audience.
• Coordinate denominational needs with local clergy.
• Schedule volunteer and paid musicians; submit payment vouchers for musicians.
• Provide material for meditation and spiritual reflection.
• Meet and welcome new residents; visit residents in crisis or illness.
• Conduct bereavement communications and funeral/memorial services as requested.
• Collaborate with local pastors/denominational groups; participate in Ministries/Speakers Bureau.
• Supervise CPE and seminary interns/Students providing ministry in our facilities.
• Provide in-service education and orientation for staff.

Job Summary:

Insure the religious/spiritual growth opportunities for staff, residents and resident’s families associated with Morningside Ministries. Advises concerning religious/moral implications of medical procedures and options. Demonstrates a concern for the emotional, psychological and spiritual needs of the elderly and their families.

Responsibilities:

PRIMARY

• Insure opportunities for corporate worship regularly within the facilities;
• Lead worship and small group religious studies appropriate for the capacities of the audience;
• Arrange for denominational religious needs by liaison with local clergy;
• Schedule volunteer and paid musicians, submit payment vouchers for paid musicians;
• Provide appropriate material for meditation and spiritual reflection;
• Meet and welcome new residents;
• Make regular visits to residents who are very ill or otherwise in crisis;
• Provide Nearing Death Kit materials for residents who are actively dying and their families;
• Visit residents and employees who are hospitalized locally;
• Send bereavement letters to next of kin;
• Conduct funeral/memorial services as requested by family in the local area;
• Make facility space available for memorial services led by local pastors;
• Invite local clergy to participate in worship leadership and pastoral care to residents;
• Insure that religious programs brought by churches are appropriate for the residents;
• Participate in ministerial alliance and denominational groups;
• Serve on Ministries Speakers Bureau. Be available for supply preaching in local churches;
• Participates in professional organizations;
• Supervise CPE and seminarian Interns/Students who provide ministry in our facilities;
• Attend appropriate supervisor’s meetings; and
• Provide appropriate in-service education and orientation for staff members.

Qualifications:

• Education: Graduation from an accredited college and seminary. Ordination and in good standing with denomination.
• Training and Experience: CPE, and/or training in counseling, aging, ecumenical worship. Parish or chaplaincy experience. Computer skills limited to word processing and E-mail. Fluency in Spanish is helpful.
• Certifications/Licenses: Valid driver’s license. Preference given to Board Certified Chaplains or those in process of certification.
