Job summary

The YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking a Certified Sports Instructor for a part-time role. The instructor leads safe, engaging classes and promotes a positive experience for participants while upholding YMCA values.

You will tailor sessions to varying skill levels, demonstrate techniques, and motivate learners to build confidence. The role emphasizes leadership development and program promotion within a community setting.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must maintain a certification from a nationally recognized organization or two years of sport-related education above high school.
• Minimum of 2 years of instructor experience with knowledge of sport theory and training principles.
• Maintain all required sport certifications (active).
• CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Teach safe and challenging classes.
• Plan classes and tailor them to the skill level of the students.
• Demonstrate techniques and help students perfect their techniques.
• Motivate participants to succeed through each level or recital.
• Adhere to class format as listed in class description.
• Develop leadership abilities in participants (e.g., assistant instructor, junior leader).
• Schedule promotional testing or recitals of participants.
• Maintain records of participants' levels for promotion.
• Promote the sport program through yearly demonstrations.
• Abide by YMCA COVID-19 sanitation practices and policies.
• Follow YMCA policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.
