POSITION: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
STATUS: PART-TIME, 20 hours per week, 10-month school-year position, regular school hours and days with occasional evening hours and weekends
Qualifications
- Minimum of Associates Degree earned from an Occupational Therapy Assistant program
- Missouri certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
- One year of experience working as a COTA with children, preferably in a school setting
REPORTS TO: Occupational Therapy Lead
Position Summary
The COTA plans and facilitates individual and group treatment for children. Independently, the COTA follows IEP/ISP student goals to help improve areas of concern.
Responsibilities
- To determine and provide research-based individual and group interventions that help students progress in areas identified on their ILP.
- To run sensory, fine and gross motor, and other groups as scheduled.
- To facilitate PE classes and record grades and progress as scheduled.
- To establish and follow through with treatment objectives for students following ILP goals.
- To work as a team member to ensure the department meets all student minutes and objectives.
- To adjust treatment based upon assessments and re-evaluations provided by the Occupational Therapist.
- To participate in supervision meetings with the assigned Occupational Therapist in intervals designated by state regulations.
- To write progress reports as needed.
- To maintain appropriate paperwork for progress monitoring and documentation.
- To participate in parent/teacher conferences and report progress.
- To maintain contact with parents via email or phone when needed.
- To participate in other activities including lunch coverage, car-pool lane and other school-based activities.
- Other activities as defined by the supervisor.
