Job summary

Diocese of Joliet Catholic Schools seeks a part-time substitute teacher for Immaculate Conception Grade School in Elmhurst. The role supports Catholic Church teachings and delivers faith-based and standard instruction using the absent teacher's plans.

Responsibilities include creating a faith-focused classroom, differentiating instruction, and maintaining a safe, respectful learning environment. Teaching religion/theology is included as applicable; licensure requirements apply.

Qualifications

• Requires current Illinois PEL or Substitute License or out-of-state reciprocity.
• Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or related discipline.
• Practicing Catholic preferred but may be required to teach religion/theology.
• Previous teaching experience in elementary or secondary education preferred.
• Experience differentiating instruction to meet diverse learners.
• Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
• Knowledge of Catholic elementary school curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a positive role model and support the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church at all times.
• Create a faith-focused learning environment within the classroom and school in which you serve.
• Facilitate student success and growth in both academic and interpersonal skills.
• Implement the absent teacher's written plans with fidelity and document student progress as directed.
• Leave detailed notes for the absent teacher.
• Create a safe, flexible learning environment.
• Model the Catholic faith in words, actions, and demeanor.
• Promote a conducive environment for individualized and small group instruction.
• Differentiate instruction based on student learning styles and needs.
• Conduct individual and small group instruction as needed.
• Ensure student conduct aligns with school standards and diocesan policies.
• Maintain standards of pupil behavior for a functional learning atmosphere.
• Utilize technology to enhance instruction.
• Supervise students during activities outside the classroom.
• Seek guidance from principal and colleagues as appropriate.
• Use Microsoft Office and other tech to enhance lessons.
• Additional duties as assigned.
