Job summary

The City of New Haven's New Haven Free Public Library seeks a part-time Librarian in the Technical Services Department. Responsibilities include cataloging and ILS work for all material types, data loading, and authority file maintenance.

Position involves 19 hours weekly with potential evening and weekend hours to support library programs. MLS or MLIS student status is preferred, with English/Spanish bilingual ability encouraged.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA‑accredited program.
• Experience with cataloging and ILS including original and copy cataloging.
• Spanish/English bilingual abilities are encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Catalogs books, periodicals, AV materials, etc. using automated system and bibliographic utilities; performs original and copy cataloging; assigns subject headings.
• Selects or aids in selecting print and non-print materials subject to review by a librarian.
• Instructs patrons in use of reference tools and databases; prepares bibliographies.
• May provide guidance to parents, teachers and patrons regarding reading material.
• Instructs patrons in library facilities and computer use; conducts library tours.
• Conducts programs such as book talks and story hours.
• Develops and maintains relationships with schools and organizations to promote services.
• Supervises support personnel; may supervise branch or department in absence of supervisor.
