This Position Is Located At 82 D Carothers Road, Newport, Kentucky 41071

Position Summary

Customer acknowledgement is always the number one responsibility of the Cashier. The Cashier is the Great Lakes Ace (GLA) team member who often has the most customer contact; in this role you are accountable for maintaining a good company image and promoting GLA's goodwill through your attitude, appearance and a concern for the profitability of the entire store.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

REGISTER OPERATIONS (typically 70% or more of role)

  • Operate cash register by scanning all merchandise, engaging the customer through suggestive selling, proper tendering of each transaction, and thanking the customer for shopping at GLA.
  • Process refunds and/or issue in-store merchandise credit for returned merchandise.
  • Use loss prevention techniques to reduce shortages and prevent shoplifting.
  • Follow GLA policies and procedures for all transactions. Engage the customer to ensure they receive all the benefits of being an Ace Rewards member and actively seek their participation.
  • Maintain familiarity with all ads, rebates, and special pricing; report pricing errors to management.
  • Answer telephones and refer calls to proper departments using the paging system and two-way radios.

SALES FLOOR (typically 30% or less of role)

  • Greet all customers and assist with questions about merchandise; use the S.A.L.E.S. process to help customers find items.
  • Assist customers in locating merchandise in store, online, or processing special orders.
  • Display, stock, and maintain merchandise following company plan-o-gram; build displays to attract customers and promote sales.
  • Assist with color matching and mixing paint.
  • Carry merchandise to customer cars if needed.

Additional Duties

  • Assist and recommend services such as chain, rope, key, glass cutting, screen repair, and knife sharpening.
  • Follow nightly maintenance checklist for store recovery and cleanliness.
  • Refer customer complaints to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain regular and prompt attendance; work flexible schedule including weekends.

Relationships

Communicate professionally with customers, management, staff, and support center associates.

Technology

Use computer keyboard, mouse, and Epicor system.

Qualifications

Must be at least 16 years old and able to perform essential duties. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.

Education and/or Experience

No prior experience necessary.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret safety rules, instructions, manuals; speak effectively with customers and staff; understand verbal instructions.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to perform basic math operations and calculate rates, ratios, and percentages.

Reasoning Ability

Apply common sense to carry out instructions; solve problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

Regularly walk, handle objects, talk, hear; occasionally sit, stoop, kneel, crouch. Lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds with assistance. Visual abilities include close, color, peripheral vision, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

Work near moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions; moderate noise level. Reasonable accommodations available.

Compensation

$11.00 per hour
