PRIMARY PURPOSE
To provide fast, easy, flexible, and friendly service to our customers through the achievement of Food Lion customer service standards. To be friendly, courteous, and cooperative with other store associates. Responsible for assisting the Customer Service Manager and the Assistant Customer Service Manager in maintaining standards according to the Front End Standard Practice Manual, maximizing sales through excellent customer service.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Smile and provide prompt, accurate, and friendly service while engaging customers to create a positive shopping experience.
- Greet each customer and use his or her name whenever possible.
- Unload customers' groceries from cart to belt, grouping items for ease of bagging such as cold items together.
- Check the bottom of every cart and under all baby seats for items before completing an order.
- Follow correct bagging procedures for the appropriate use of bags by type.
- Scan customers' orders and handle payment transactions per standard practice.
- Avoid personal conversations with other associates when customers are present.
- Follow procedures in handling cash, checks, coupons, gift cards, partner cards, food stamps, and WIC vouchers.
- Follow procedures for refunds and error corrections.
- Maintain accurate cash control whenever possible.
- Follow procedures and perform overrides as needed.
- Identify customers needing assistance and offer to take their order to their car.
- Maintain alertness and call for assistance when needed to meet service standards.
- Check prices quickly and accurately.
- Be courteous and helpful to other associates.
- Wear the Food Lion uniform with apron, complete with name badge, when on duty, maintaining a neat and clean appearance in accordance with the dress code.
- Retrieve shopping carts from parking lot and cart corrals using the tether strap per standard practice.
- Ensure the work station and front end area are neat and clean.
- Report any register malfunctions to the Customer Service Manager or MOD.
- Ensure the MVP savings center KIOSK is stocked with paper and functioning properly.
- Adhere to all company policies, guidelines, and standard practices.
- Observe and correct unsafe conditions to prevent accidents.
- Notify QA of cleaning or maintenance issues on the front end.
- Complete computer-based training and courses as required.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
- Willingness and ability to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements.
- Ability to perform technical duties of cashier and service center.
- Must meet minimum age requirements for specific job functions.
- Ability to meet physical requirements with or without accommodations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to use computers and communication systems required for the job.
- Perform repetitive hand and arm motions.
- Bend and lift weights up to 15 lbs. continuously, 25 lbs. frequently, and 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Pull or push up to 75 lbs. occasionally.
- Stand 100% of the time, with frequent short-distance walking.
- Handle substances related to cleaning, packaging, fresh produce, and household items.
- Use hands to handle currency and operate equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and computers.
- Reach and grasp at waist level, occasionally above shoulder or below waist.
- Work in extreme hot/cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes.
- Visual ability to check IDs, checks, and documents.
- Move empty bottles and containers from the front end to the back room where applicable.
