Job summary

Indiana University Bloomington is seeking a part-time Retail Dining staff member to support cafe and campus store operations. You will handle inventory, receive shipments, unload/load trucks, rotate stock, and assist customers at a service counter, while following safety and quality standards.

Work hours are 6:30 AM to 12:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends; the role is capped at 29 hours per week and pays $13.75 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Receive shipments and manage inventory, rotate stock by shelf life and lot numbers.
  • Unload/load trucks and operate forklifts/order picker equipment.
  • Staff a customer service counter and assist campus guests.
  • Prepare store for daily operations and set up displays.
  • Ensure safety, quality, and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Move and lift items up to 60 pounds and handle heavy pallets.

Job description

RETAIL DINING (BA-CAFE-IUBLA)

Indiana University (IU) Dining and Hospitality supports the IU community and our guests by serving fresh, delicious, sustainably sources cuisine in welcoming dining halls and eateries.

Retail Dining runs food operations for cafes and campus stores at IU Bloomington, also managing relationships with external businesses that serve food on campus and vendors whose retails products are carried at IU.

Retail Dining Staff work closely with the teams in residential and IMU dining to ensure consistent procurement of products that match student preferences and dietary needs.

Department Specific Responsibilities
  • Plays a key part of the production process as they receive shipments of product from vendors, and works with production managers to store product and manage inventory to control food costs.
  • Receives incoming shipments of goods and materials. Unloads trucks and accepts items based upon quantity, quality and condition. Monitors inventory. Enters data into computerized inventory system. Recognizes items and materials that require special handling or storage requirements and treats with appropriate care (perishable, volatile, toxic, etc.).
  • Stores goods in designated areas; rotates stock according to shelf life, expiration dates, lot numbers or other criteria. Gathers goods and materials from inventory locations as specified by pick list or requisition. Secures items on pallet or other container for shipment. Reconciles quantities of collected goods and materials with requisition or pick list; transports to dock and loads truck.
  • Unloads and loads trucks manually or by operating a power forklift, rotates stock and moves other bulky and/or heavy items in warehouse. Performs inventory counts; participates in monitoring facilities and in maintaining building security.
  • May staff a customer service counter and respond to customer requests.
  • May use University vehicle to make deliveries and pick up materials.
  • Performs routine maintenance and makes minor repairs to equipment as necessary.
  • Opens, sets up, and prepares store for daily operations.
EDUCATION
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • 1 year of inventory control, storeroom, or warehouse experience.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire.
  • Ability to obtain forklift operator certification within 180 days from date of hire.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate. It involves remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time as well as moving around the work environment. The position requires moving and assembling objects and placing objects on high and low shelving units and storage racks. The role requires the ability to detect details of objects and the ability to move objects weighing up to 60 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$13.75 per hour

Hours are 6:30 AM -12:00 PM Monday - Friday occasional weekends when needed.

Management reserves the right to adjust hours as needed based on business need.

Position is capped at 29 hours per week.
