About the Position

Durham City Transit Company dba GoDurham is recruiting Bus Operators to transport passengers throughout Durham. This is a Part‑Time role with a guaranteed minimum of 28 hours per week. Additional hours are available based on availability. Employees working at least 30 hours per week are eligible for the full benefits package.

Training

• Full training to obtain a CDL and required endorsements (160‑240 hours of behind‑the‑wheel and classroom instruction).
• Successfully passing the CDL Permit and subsequent license is required to continue employment.

Compensation and Benefits

• Starting pay: $16.85 per hour.
• Pay increases to $18.05 at 6 months, and $25.00+ after 4 years.

Schedule

• Operations will create a Part‑Time schedule for each employee—typically nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional days.

Responsibilities

• Abide by all safety, federal transit requirements, traffic regulations, and company policies.
• Complete all required paperwork—including manifests, pre/post‑inspection checks, accident reports, and other forms.
• Follow dispatch instructions and efficiently handle pick‑up and drop‑off sequences.
• Answer passenger questions politely and accurately.
• Ensure passengers’ ride is comfortable and safe.
• Provide assistance to individuals as needed.
• Keep current on the operation of all service routes.

Qualifications & Experience

• Valid CDL Permit within 7 business days of class start, followed by a valid CDL with passenger endorsement before completion of the full training class.
• Ability to maintain a DOT card.
• Six years of driving experience preferred.
• Good driving record and ability to drive in all adverse weather conditions.
• Prior bus or heavy vehicle driving experience preferred.
• Must pass drug screening and criminal background check.
