Job summary

A Place Called Home in Los Angeles is seeking a Part-Time Bus Driver to transport youth for educational programs, field trips and events. Reporting to the Senior Director of Administrative Services, you will ensure safe, reliable transportation and represent APCH with professionalism.

Required: a minimum of one year driving large passenger vehicles, a California Class B CDL with P and S endorsements, a School Bus certificate or ability to obtain it, a DOT Medical Card, and a clean DMV record.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year of experience safely operating large passenger vehicles, preferably transporting youth or school-age passengers.
• Valid California Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
• Valid California School Bus Driver Certificate (or ability to obtain prior to employment).
• Current Medical Examiner's Certificate (DOT Medical Card) required.
• Defensive Driving certification or training preferred.
• Clean driving record with an acceptable DMV MVR.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Responsibilities

• Pick up/drop off students to designated destinations
• Transport members on field trips
• Ensure students and staff adhere to safe transportation practices
• Report any safety or mechanical concerns to the Senior Director of Administrative Services and Transportation Assistant Manager immediately
• Ensure vehicles are kept clean (inside and out)
• Fill vehicles with gas as needed
• Plan and monitor routes for maximum efficiency
• Communicate any delays or changes in schedule with school partners, APCH Membership team members, Senior Director of Administrative Services, Transportation Assistant Manager and any other relevant parties
• Provide administrative assistance to Transportation Coordinator
• Pick up in-kind donations as requested
• Adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards and values at all times

Schedule Classification: Essential Onsite Monday-Friday (12PM-5PM)

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Administrative Services the Bus Driver will transport members for A Place Called Home as needed. The Part Time Bus Driver plays a vital role in supporting A Place Called Home's mission by providing safe, reliable, and positive transportation experiences for youth participating in educational programs, field trips, enrichment activities, and special agency events. More than a driver, this position serves as a trusted representative of APCH, helping create a welcoming and supportive environment where members feel safe, respected, and valued.

Essential duties and responsibilities

• Pick up/drop off students to designated destinations
• Transport members on field trips
• Ensure students and staff adhere to safe transportation practices
• Report any safety or mechanical concerns to the Senior Director of Administrative Services and Transportation Assistant Manager immediately
• Ensure vehicles are kept clean (inside and out)

Other Non-Essential Responsibilities

• Assist with the supervision of members during program hours, special events, and field trips
• Attend all required program meetings and events
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and agency events outside of regular business hours, as needed.
• Able to communicate and convey accurate information
• Submit to Drug and Alcohol testing as required by the state and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCAS)
• Submit to random alcohol and drug testing as required by the Agency's Consortium
• Enroll in the Agency's California DMV Employer Pull Notice (EPN) Program
• Perform other tasks as assigned

Education, Training & Experience

• Minimum one (1) year of experience safely operating large passenger vehicles, preferably transporting youth or school-age passengers.
• Valid California Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
• Valid California School Bus Driver Certificate (or ability to obtain prior to employment, if applicable).
• Current Medical Examiner's Certificate (DOT Medical Card) required.
• Defensive Driving certification or training preferred.
• Clean driving record with an acceptable DMV Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Physical and Mental Demands

• Able to work in a dynamic and high noise level environment typical of a youth center and or transporting youth
• Frequent sitting
• Current medical clearance certificate (as required with Class B license)
• Continual use of vision as required by driving exam
• Lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally (donation pick-ups)
