Qualifications

Job description

The City of Biddeford, a beautiful, resurgent, coastal Maine community, is seeking dynamic people to join our award-winning team of professionals. You will need to be highly motivated, talented, with a strong desire to make a difference in the daily lives of citizens. Bus Drivers will join the Recreation Department to provide transportation for our camp staff and participants to a variety of field trip locations throughout southern Maine and New Hampshire.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises all children on the bus
  • Obeys traffic laws
  • Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses
  • Maintains discipline when students are on the bus
  • Works with the Program Coordinator to address disciplinary issues
  • Keeps the assigned vehicle clean
  • Checks the vehicle before each operation for any issues or failures; notifies the Program Coordinator with findings
  • Exercises responsible leadership during all times
  • Transports only authorized participants
  • Keeps to the assigned schedule
  • Reports all accidents and completes required reports
  • Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus
  • Demonstrates and utilizes excellent team building skills
  • Able to work under occasional stress
  • Maintains confidentiality and effectively operates in an environment which involves sensitive situations with participants, families, staff, and the general public
  • Adhere to all Recreation Department policies
  • Attend scheduled pre-camp and in-service staff meetings and trainings

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License with excellent driving record
  • Appropriate licensing to meet Maine laws and regulations
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexible and a team player
  • A willingness to demonstrate a commitment to the City of Biddeford's work around diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • CDL License with an S Endorsement
  • Experience working in a camp, recreation, or school setting
  • Experience working with children ages 4-14
  • Experience addressing camper behavioral issues with children and staff
  • CPR/ First Aid certified

Job Type: Seasonal or Non-Seasonal Part-Time

Salary: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour

Schedule: Monday-Friday; up to 29 hours/week (May - early June), 40 hours/week (June – August)

Work Location: In-person (J. Richard Martin Community Center, 189 Alfred St., Biddeford or Teen Center at Rotary Park)
