Job summary

The University of Louisville Brown Cancer Center Bioinformatics Core seeks a part-time (10 hours/week) temporary worker to help automate existing computational biology pipelines. The position will last for approximately 6 months.

You will refactor pipelines (RNA-Seq, DNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, single-cell and long-read workflows), set up automated HPC execution, and document workflows using GitHub and version control, collaborating with Core members and the Principal Investigator to ensure

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science and Engineering.
• Proficiency in Python, R, or Bash.
• Familiarity with Unix/Linux CLI.
• Experience with version control and software engineering practices.

Responsibilities

• Refactor and automate existing bioinformatics pipelines (RNA-Seq, DNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, single-cell, long-read) to improve reproducibility and reduce manual steps.
• Convert ad hoc analysis scripts into modular, parameterized workflows.
• Set up automated execution on HPC clusters, including scheduling and dependencies.
• Add error handling, logging, and basic validation/testing; use GitHub for code management.
