Job summary

AAAS is seeking a Part-time Business Intelligence & Data Analyst II to join the Research & Data Analytics team in Washington, DC. The role focuses on building data pipelines in AWS, curating Power BI datasets, and supporting analysts in creating dashboards.

Responsibilities include data quality monitoring, developing efficient queries, and mentoring others in BI practices. Remote work is possible; initial six-month term with $40 hourly compensation.

Qualifications

• BA/BS with at least two years of experience working with large datasets using SQL and R, or MS degree in data science or related field.
• Proficient with Excel and slide deck software (PowerPoint, Canva, Google Slides).
• Proficient with AWS ETL tools (Glue, Lambda, Iceberg, Athena).
• Proficient with R, Python, SQL, and PySpark.
• Proficient with data visualization software (Power BI, Tableau, Google Data Studio).
• Familiar with data quality, ETL best practices, and data governance concepts.
• Experience summarizing research methods and producing insightful analyses.
• Experience creating visually compelling reports and dashboards.

Responsibilities

• Add data from various sources to the AWS ETL Platform (RAP).
• Write efficient SQL queries to pull data into Power BI datasets.
• Develop fast Power BI reports and PBIX files with reliable data.
• Curate datasets, reports, and dashboards in Power BI.
• Monitor data quality and improve accuracy and completeness.
• Mentor analysts on building Power BI datasets and reports.
• Maintain documentation of data pipelines, datasets, and reports.
• Support lifecycle project management from conception to closeout.
