Good Shepherd Services in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a Part-Time Basketball Coach/Mentor for the Rebound Elevate program. You will coach basketball three times weekly and develop a sports curriculum tied to workforce readiness, supporting sessions and events.

The role requires engaging youth ages 18-26, strong communication, and a commitment to strength-based development. Travel up to 50% and lifting up to 50 lbs are part of the job responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience with older youth (18-26) preferred.
  • Ability to engage youth and provide structure in group settings.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to strength-based/youth development approaches.
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coach basketball three times a week during Elevate Cohort Session.
  • Develop sports curriculum reflecting workforce readiness and careers in sports management.
  • Support Rebound program basketball sessions and special events throughout the year.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and funder events.
  • Create a youth and family development, strength’s-based environment, fostering a sense of belonging, safety, and community to participants.
  • Assist with Program Recruitment and Marketing.
  • Build Partnerships via community canvasing, tabling events, and facilitation of presentations.
  • Collaborate with Good Shepherd Service programs.
  • Document classes/workshop planning as required.
  • Utilize technology daily to execute job functions including computers, tablets and phones to perform administrative tasks, data entry, virtual workshop facilitation, word processing, email correspondence, text messaging, social media marketing and internet navigation/research.
  • Provide alumni outreach and support including career counseling, referrals and skill development.
  • Ability to respond to physical needs of participants during programming in workshop and sports activities.
  • Lift, move, and transport objects weighing up to 50 pounds across sites for events/programming.
  • Travel is required across sites, partnership locations and special events up to 50% of the time.
  • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs in different locations that vary in accessibility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Rebound Elevate is a job readiness program that incorporates basketball to engage participants and explore careers in sports. The program serves young adults, who are disconnected, justice involved, overage and/or under-credited. Reports To: Senior Program Manager, Rebound

Location: Brooklyn, NY, 11207

Hours: 15-18 Hours/Week, Non-Exempt, Part Time

Salary: $22 - $30 per hour

Major Duties:
