AVID Tutor – Part-Time position to support identified students with college readiness and subject-area tutoring using AVID strategies. Reports to AVID Coordinator/Teacher in the Secondary Campuses.

Requires a current or former college student with at least a 2.5 GPA and a strong Math/English background evidenced by transcript. Salary is $15 per hour; 6–15 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• Must be a current or former college student with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
• Strong Math and English background evidenced by college transcript.

Responsibilities

• Become familiar with the AVID 10-Step tutorial Process.
• Participate in trainings, professional development sessions, and meetings.
• Tutor students in small study groups assisting with class notes and textbooks.
• Determine concepts to teach or retaught from student notes and discussions.
• Facilitate learning in a challenging yet supportive tutoring environment.
• Evaluate student binders, calendars, and notes for progress.
• Use AVID Curriculum Libraries and familiar materials.
• Set high personal expectations for AVID students to follow.
• Support students in the writing process from brainstorming to editing.
