JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Department of Athletics and Recreation at Penn State Altoona is seeking qualified applicants to serve as Fitness Instructor s. Class formats include:

  • Water aerobics
  • Boot camp
  • Kickboxing
  • Conditioning workouts
  • Dance fusion classes
  • Abdominal and lower back
  • Strength training
  • HIIT training
  • Zumba
  • Hip-hop
  • Spinning
  • Pilates
  • TRX
  • Yoga
Job Duties
  • Instructor s are expected to conduct classes in an engaging, safe and effective manner, providing an encouraging and motivating atmosphere while helping participants achieve class objectives.
  • Assist with maintenance of equipment.
  • Enforce facility and program policies.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Previous group fitness teaching experience.
  • Ability to conduct safe and effective classes.
  • Knowledge of strength training and cardiovascular exercise.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Specific class certification or national fitness certification, Commonly accepted certifications include ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine), ACE (American Council on Exercise), NSCA (National Sports and Conditioning Association), NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine), AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America), IFA (International Fitness Association), or other related and accredited organization.
  • Adult First Aid and CPR/AED required.
