Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of experience teaching multi-sports and/or fitness to youth.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred; strong verbal communication skills; classroom management.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and data/attendance tracking.
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds and work onsite in a youth center environment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and lead multi-sport/fitness classes for youth (8–18).

Job Title:Part Time Athletics Instructor

Department:Wellness Department

Reports To:Athletics Lead

FLSA status:Part Time Non exempt / 25 Hrs.

Schedule: Essential Onsite - M-F (1:30-6:30PM) ; Saturdays required for part of the year to support the South Central Sports League (flex day off during those weeks); option for full-time hours for approximately 6-7 weeks during APCH's summer session (full-day summer camp); occasional morning meetings/trainings, scheduled with advance notice.

SUMMARY

The APCH Athletics program seeks a highly skilled and enthusiastic PT Athletics Instructor to lead and develop athletic classes for youth ages 8-18 (2nd - 12th grade). Reporting to the Athletics Lead, the PT Athletics Instructor will design and deliver classes that foster a love for physical fitness and sports, with a focus on skill development, confidence building, and respect for oneself and others. This position requires a high-energy individual who can manage classes effectively, inspire participants, and maintain a safe and supportive environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with youth, an upbeat personality, and the ability to engage students in fun, hands-on learning experiences that empower them to lead active and healthy lives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Instruction, Coaching & Curriculum Development
  • Develop and implement curriculum for assigned classes, incorporating physical conditioning, multi-sport skills, fitness concepts, and healthy lifestyle habits, ensuring content is developmentally appropriate and aligned with APCH’s mission.
  • Design, plan, and lead engaging, hands-on athletics classes that promote active participation and skill development.
  • Adapt lessons for diverse abilities to create an inclusive, welcoming environment for students of all fitness levels and interests.
  • Lead semester-end projects or showcases where students can demonstrate learned skills, celebrating their accomplishments and growth.
  • Coach APCH teams participating in the South Central Sports League, applying the same instructional and youth development approach used in regular classes.
  • Support the Athletics Lead with game-day logistics for South Central Sports League matches, including general administration, partnership/vendor coordination, and first aid coverage as needed.

  • Serve as a positive role model, promoting self-respect, peer respect, and a supportive classroom environment.
  • Encourage teamwork, confidence, and resilience, providing individualized feedback to support students’ personal and athletic growth.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment, following APCH policies and safety protocols.
  • Manage group dynamics effectively, ensuring all students remain engaged, respectful, and productive, with attention to conflict resolution and supportive redirection.
  • Program Administration & Data
  • Track and record daily attendance, maintaining accuracy in attendance logs and entering data into APCH’s tracking system promptly.
  • Support with APCH’s overall program surveys and assessments, as needed.
  • Community Engagement & Collaboration
  • Build positive relationships with students, parents, and APCH staff, fostering an open and supportive communication network.
  • Collaborate across APCH programs to align athletics with broader organizational goals.
  • Participate in meetings, trainings, and professional development to continually improve instructional techniques and stay updated on best practices.
  • Supervise members during program activities, free time, agency field trips, ensuring safety and adherence to program guidelines
Qualifications
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience teaching multi-sports and/or fitness to youth of various ages and fitness levels.
  • Education & Skills: Bilingual in Spanish preferred; strong verbal communication skills; experience in classroom management, especially in an outdoor setting.
  • Teaching Approach: Demonstrates respect, support, and fairness; passionate about fitness and self-development.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Google Workspace, data management for attendance and progress tracking.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to walk, stand, and move freely on different terrains, lift up to 25 pounds, and communicate effectively.
