Job summary

Miami Theater Center (MTC) seeks a hands-on Assistant Technical Director for a part-time role (20 hours per week). This position supports the Technical Director in a fast-paced performing arts venue, collaborating with artists, students, and the community.

Responsibilities include assisting with performances, rehearsals, rentals and events; program, operate and troubleshoot the ETC Ion lighting console; hang, focus and patch lighting; assist with sound, projections and stage setup; support

Qualifications

• ETC Ion lighting console knowledge required.
• General knowledge of theatrical lighting and backstage operations.
• Experience with live theater production preferred.
• Able to lift 25 pounds and climb ladders as needed.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
• Positive attitude; able to work independently and in a team.
• Availability for evenings and weekends based on production schedule.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Technical Director with performances, rehearsals, rentals, and events.
• Program, operate, and troubleshoot the ETC Ion lighting console.
• Hang, focus, patch, and maintain lighting equipment.
• Assist with basic sound, projection, and stage setup.
• Support load-ins, strikes, and general stage operations.
• Maintain theater equipment, tools, and backstage spaces.
• Ensure safe backstage practices during operations.
• Provide technical support for educational programs and community events.
• Collaborate with visiting artists, rental clients, production staff, and volunteers.
