Overview

A Teacher at The Goddard School is responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment. Additionally, a Teacher works collaboratively with an Assistant Teacher and the entire faculty.

General Qualifications

A Teacher must meet the qualifications of their state and those set forth in the National Standards for hiring (see www.bls.gov), including:

• Ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid
• Ability to see and read newsprint, with or without corrective lenses
• Ability to speak and be understood under normal circumstances
• Ability to use arms, hands, legs, and feet, with or without corrective devices; including evacuation during emergencies
• Ability to handle crisis situations involving children
• Ability to respond immediately to emergency situations
• Lead Teacher educational requirements are the same as Director educational requirements (see Director requirements or other criteria listed below)

Educational Qualifications

Candidates wishing to be considered for the Lead Teacher position must meet one or more of the following criteria, in addition to state and local licensing requirements:

• An Associate’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Development, or a related field
• A current CDA or Early Childhood Teaching Credential
• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field, including 18 semester hours of coursework related to children aged birth to 8 years
• Proof of current enrollment in a CDA Credentialing Program
• Proof of current enrollment in an accredited Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree program in Early Childhood Education or a related field

Teacher Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Establishing and maintaining a safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment
• Designing room arrangements to support developmental goals
• Developing classroom management systems
• Ensuring equipment is in good repair
• Implementing emergency procedures
• Promoting healthy eating practices
• Maintaining state ratio requirements
• Performing cleaning responsibilities as needed
• Posting and adhering to classroom schedules and health policies
