Family Dollar in Waterloo, IA is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to support daily store operations, deliver friendly customer service, and help develop the store team. You will assist with merchandising, scheduling, and loss prevention while ensuring a clean, organized, and welcoming shopping environment.

This role requires strong communication, reliability, and the ability to lift merchandise and work in a fast-paced retail setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; ability to read, interpret, and explain operational directives required.
• Store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store environment preferred.
• Must lift up to 55 lbs and handle frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and written skills required.
• Ability to work in a high-energy, team environment required.
• Exceptional customer service, organizational, and communication skills required.
• Strong problem solving and decision-making skills required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with store functions and day-to-day activities.
• Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address questions or concerns.
• Organize and transfer merchandise from delivery truck to stockroom to sales floor; maintain seasonal areas.
• Perform opening and closing procedures as needed.
• Process corporate directives related to store activities and communications.
• Maintain promotional effectiveness of fixtures and displays.
• Assist in ordering merchandise, processing damaged merchandise, record-keeping (including payroll, scheduling, and cash handling), and loss prevention.
• Maintain a well-stocked sales floor and organized stockroom to company standards.
• Protect and secure all company assets, including store cash.
• Adhere to policies and procedures including safety guidelines and ensure associates follow policies.
• Help Store Manager supervise, train, and develop Store Associates.
• Ensure a positive, safe, and respectful environment with customers and staff.
• Maintain cleanliness throughout the store, restocking bathrooms, sweeping and mopping floors, and taking out trash.
