Job Description

Purpose and Scope:

The PT Assistant I, Computer Research (G) supports a professor or principal investigator on a specific project, involving data collection/analysis and software development. This role offers hands-on experience in the field.

This is a temporary, grant-funded position. Continuation depends on continued grant funding.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Data management and analysis: Collects, organizes, and analyzes research data using statistical software and scripting languages. Conducts research on topics as stipulated by the supervising manager
  2. Software and algorithm development: Assists in the development, testing, and debugging of software prototypes or new algorithms. Performs experiments using AI tools to generate content related to research topics
  3. Technical support: Perform tasks related to computer systems, such as updating databases, performing maintenance, and troubleshooting technical issues. Develop programs to produce analytics and test results on research topics
  4. Literature review: Conduct comprehensive literature searches to summarize existing research and gather information for projects
  5. Documentation and reporting: Maintain detailed records of research activities, document results, and assist in preparing reports, presentations, and manuscripts for publication. Create research deliverables as directed by the supervising manager
  6. Collaboration: Work effectively with the research team, attend project meetings, and communicate progress and findings
  7. Administrative tasks: Provide general administrative support, such as scheduling meetings and managing correspondence related to the research
  8. Responsible for other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Education: Currently enrolled in or recently graduated with an AS or AAS degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Technical skills: Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C#, HTML/CSS, JavaScript) and familiarity with data analysis tools and databases. Knowledge of tools like MATLAB, TensorFlow, or R may be required depending on the project
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills: Proven ability to logically break down and solve complex problems
  • Organizational skills: Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate and detailed research records
  • Communication skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration and reporting
  • Work ethic: Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical Abilities

The work is sedentary. The employee typically sits, with some walking, standing, bending, or light carrying. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Work Schedule and Conditions
  • Equipment includes a PC workstation on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office and/or laboratory
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completed Computer Science and Math courses equivalent to 12 credit hours
Salary

Hourly Pay Rate is $12.14.
