Job summary

Lincoln Memorial University is seeking a Part Time Assistant/Associate/Professor of Surgery to teach LMU-DCOM approved curriculum, perform clinical and surgical duties, and engage in scholarly activity. Job Description

The Assistant/Associate/Professor of Surgery will be primarily responsible for teaching LMU - DCOM approved curriculum, clinical and surgical duties, and scholarly activity. They shall be held accountable for these obligations as they contribute to the attainment of the mission of the University, the School, and the Department. Lead and facilitate skills labs for residents and students at our GME partner institutions, ensuring hands-on, competency-based learning experiences as needed. Design and deliver structured procedural training sessions to enhance residents and students clinical competencies as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • D.O./M.D. degree and Board Certification in Surgery;
  • able to be licensed in Tennessee within the first-year of hire date by the Tennessee Board of Osteopathic Examination/Tennessee Medical State Board; unrestricted Tennessee license and approved medical professional liability insurance must be maintained throughout employment (individual coverage for patient care for University approved activities will be paid or reimbursed by LMU - DCOM ).
Preferred Qualifications
  • D.O. degree and able to be licensed in Tennessee by the Tennessee Board of Osteopathic Examination;
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in clinical/academic medicine teaching and leadership. Academic rank will be commensurate with training and experience.

  • *promote clinical service and demonstrate adequate standards of professional linguistic expression in writing and speech;
  • *have on file in the appropriate office an outline and list of the goals and objectives for each lecture;
  • *carry out lecture, seminar, small group discussion and/or clinical assignments and responsibilities effectively;
  • *help present a course and/or series of integrated lectures and/or small group discussions;
  • *prepare examination questions as well as grade a course or portion of course;
  • *meet classes according to published schedule;
  • *commit to working in a professional multicultural environment that fosters diversity;
  • *provide service by attending scheduled faculty meetings and by serving on appointed and or elected committees as required;
  • *work, as needed, with the Assistant Dean of Clinical Medicine on curricular matters;
  • * serve as an active member of the department, working closely with the department chair to further the department and College mission and vision
  • *complete required institutional, program accreditation, and other reports necessary for the operation and advancement of University programs;
  • *provide clinical service/patient care and bedside teaching for students in the clinical setting;
  • *serve as an example to learners and colleagues of appropriate professional behavior;
  • *participate in clinic quality assurance and other service evaluation activities;
  • *participate in scholarly activity;
  • *serve as mentor to medical and other students;
  • *demonstrate and supervise students during clinical educational activities utilizing standardized patients and/or volunteer patients;
  • *supervise students during authorized and approved patient care events including health fairs, sports physicals, or community outreach programs; and
  • *perform other duties as assigned.
