Job summary

Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Lab Support Assistant to aid AI coursework under the GAIT grant. You will help prepare lab workstations, set up Python and Jupyter Notebook environments, and ensure AI software is ready for instruction.

You will assist with equipment upkeep, inventory, student help during open labs, and maintain grant records and attendance data. Evening or weekend hours may be required to support classes and program events.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Basic knowledge of Python programming.
• Basic familiarity with artificial intelligence concepts and tools.
• Proficiency with Windows and common productivity software.

Responsibilities

• Assist with coordination of AI laboratory activities for courses in programming, machine learning, NLP, computer vision, and generative AI.
• Monitor students in the lab during open lab hours; track lab usage and sign-in data; perform basic data entry.
• Prepare lab for classes by setting up workstations, Python and Jupyter Notebook environments, AI libraries, and approved cloud-based AI platforms.
• Maintain lab computers and AI equipment (GPU workstations, cameras, sensors, edge devices); perform setup, updates, troubleshooting, and storage; notify supervisor of repairs.
• Assist with inventory of equipment, software licenses, and supplies purchased with grant funds; initiate ordering as needed.
• Maintain the lab's learning resources, including tutorials, datasets, code samples, and setup guides.
• Keep records of lab activities and grant participation (attendance, events, certifications, work-based learning).
• Assist students who study outside class time, including those preparing for AI certifications, under faculty direction.
• Support GAIT program events such as information sessions, workshops, and student recruitment activities.
• Follow College policies on FERPA, data security, and responsible AI use in the lab.
• Other duties as assigned.
