Job summary

Masa in the South Bronx is seeking a part-time Literacy Tutor to provide targeted reading intervention for grades K-5 in its afterschool program. The role emphasizes culturally responsive approaches and social justice topics, with hours 3 pm–7 pm, Monday–Thursday, 10–12 hours per week, through March 30, 2027 with possible extension.

You will work with a Literacy Specialist, monitor progress, report outcomes, and help students build confidence and a love of reading in a welcoming, in-person

Qualifications

• 18+ years of age.
• Some college completed.
• High GPA in ELA/English courses.
• Passionate about literacy.
• Experience with elementary students.
• Ability to engage and adapt to students.
• Background check required.

Responsibilities

• Provide targeted reading intervention in small groups.
• Support push-in literacy lessons in afterschool program.
• Collaborate with Literacy Specialist to advance instructional practices.
• Monitor student progress and provide meaningful feedback.
• Create a positive, supportive learning environment.
